Ideal Matter:
Globalisation and the Intellectual Property Debate
by Julian Morris, Rosalind Mowatt, W. Duncan Reekie and Richard Tren

Ideal Matter: Globalisation and the Intellectual Property Debate is among CNE's most-downloaded publications; since its publication in 2002, more than 21,000 copies have been requested.

Ideal Matter begins with an overview of intellectual property (IP): What is it? What ethical theories are behind it? Then, in chapter two, the authors explain the economics of IP, including IP's alleged "monopoly effect" and the optimization of R&D spending.

Building on this foundation of IP fundamentals, Morris et al address IP's role in the global economy, specifically analysing the problems of parallel trade, TRIPS, the African AIDS epidemic and the emerging issues in the software industry.
